The welfare of feral cats in TNR colonies is genuinely complex. These animals are too feral to be housed as pets, yet euthanasia of healthy animals conflicts with the values of many advocates. Colony cats can have reasonable welfare if they have reliable food sources, shelter, and veterinary care from dedicated colony managers — but many colonies lack this support.
