Working camels suffer from overloading, lack of water, harness injuries, and inadequate veterinary care in many regions. Racing camels are selectively bred for speed and subjected to extreme training regimens. Tourism camels carrying heavy loads on hard surfaces in hot conditions face foot injury and chronic overwork. The camel milk industry creates welfare concerns through calf management — milk production requires regular stimulation, and separation of calves from mothers to maximize milk for human consumption causes distress in both individuals.
