Welfare Considerations

Chinese giant salamanders are poached from wild populations for luxury consumption, with individual animals held in terrible conditions in restaurants until purchased. Captive salamanders require specific environmental conditions — particularly temperature and skin moisture — that are frequently not met in standard reptile shop conditions.
