Click beetles are named for their remarkable ability to right themselves by snapping their bodies with an audible click. Their larvae are agricultural pests and their welfare deserves consideration in pest management.

Whether wireworms experience suffering is uncertain, but their extended developmental period and complex behaviours suggest some consideration is warranted. Broad-spectrum soil pesticides also kill non-target invertebrates including beneficial species. Integrated pest management approaches can reduce wireworm mortality while preserving soil biodiversity.
