Treecreepers depend on structurally complex woodland with varied bark textures and abundant dead wood. Intensive forestry that replaces diverse woodland with uniform conifer plantations reduces suitability significantly. Cold winters reduce invertebrate availability and increase mortality risk. The loss of traditional orchard trees and veteran trees from farmland has reduced foraging habitat outside dedicated woodland reserves.
