This perception is incorrect and causes suffering. Guinea pigs are emotionally complex, socially dependent animals with specific nutritional, spatial, and veterinary needs. The suffering caused by small cages, single housing, and inadequate diet is real and preventable. Welfare education at point of sale and through pet care guidance is the most direct intervention available.
