Welfare Considerations

Cheetah welfare crises operate at two levels. In zoos, cheetahs are difficult to keep in welfare-appropriate conditions because they are wide-ranging, stress-sensitive animals. Breeding failure in captivity due to stress further undermines conservation value. Combating the illegal pet trade is both a welfare and conservation priority.
