Working in slaughterhouses is associated with some of the highest rates of occupational injury, PTSD, and psychological harm of any industry — creating a direct link between worker welfare and animal welfare reform.
The link between worker and animal welfare in slaughter is well-documented: overworked, psychologically distressed workers in high-speed production lines are less able to maintain humane handling standards. Reforms that improve worker conditions — slower line speeds, mental health support, stronger unions — also tend to improve animal welfare outcomes. This alignment makes worker-animal welfare coalitions a potentially powerful reform force.
