Rabbits are active animals that naturally run, leap, and explore large territories. Wire cages prevent all these behaviors — rabbits spend their entire lives on metal mesh floors without the ability to stand fully upright or move more than a step or two. Muscle atrophy, bone disease, and behavioral frustration are predictable consequences. The welfare evidence base for rabbit farming has been growing for decades, but commercial interests have repeatedly delayed regulatory reform in major producing countries.
