Welfare Considerations

Despite this, fish are frequently kept in conditions that fail to meet their basic welfare needs: overcrowded tanks, bare glass interiors, unsuitable companions, and poor water quality. The impulse purchase of small attractive fish without understanding their needs drives widespread welfare compromise. Aquarium welfare depends on pre-purchase education, appropriate tank size and setup, and ongoing monitoring of both fish behaviour and water parameters.
