Precision livestock farming (PLF) represents a genuine welfare opportunity: technologies that continuously monitor individual animals can detect disease, injury, and behavioral abnormalities earlier than human observation alone, enabling faster intervention. Lameness detected by gait analysis sensors can be treated before chronic pain develops; respiratory disease caught by acoustic monitoring can be treated before it becomes severe; individual feed intake monitoring identifies animals failing to thrive.
