The combination of mandatory GPS tracking, temperature and gas sensor data loggers, and electronic identification of individual animals creates an auditable record that is difficult to tamper with. Several EU member states have piloted real-time transport monitoring platforms that allow competent authorities to intervene during ongoing journeys when welfare breaches are detected. Scaling these systems internationally requires regulatory harmonization and investment in inspection capacity at key border crossing points.
