Canine parvovirus is a devastating and often fatal disease in unvaccinated dogs, causing extreme suffering that is almost entirely preventable through vaccination.
Few diseases cause suffering as acute as parvovirus in dogs. Affected puppies experience extreme pain, bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and septic shock over several days. Even with intensive veterinary care, many die. The tragedy is that nearly all cases are preventable with timely vaccination. Unvaccinated dogs in underserved communities and shelters bear a disproportionate burden of this disease. Access to affordable vaccination is a major animal welfare issue.
