Sun bears in bile farms suffer some of the most extreme animal welfare violations documented. Chronic pain from surgical wounds, complete movement restriction, social isolation, and psychological deprivation cause profound suffering across decades-long captivity. Rescued bears exhibit stereotypic behaviours, self-directed aggression, and fear responses that persist for years. Sun bears kept as pets suffer from inappropriate diets, social isolation, and lack of climbing opportunities essential to their welfare.
