Poultry abattoir welfare is a high-impact but technically challenging area. The combination of extreme throughput speeds, the difficulty of assessing stunning efficacy in real time, and significant resource constraints on inspection creates conditions where welfare violations can occur at scale. CCTV requirements, investment in higher-welfare killing systems, and strengthened official veterinarian resourcing are the most impactful interventions. Given that poultry represents the largest category of farmed land animals by number, abattoir welfare improvements have enormous aggregate impact.
