Older cats have changing physical and cognitive needs that require adapted enrichment strategies. Maintaining quality of life in senior cats is a growing focus of companion animal welfare.
Senior cats are frequently under-served by enrichment programmes designed for younger, more active animals. As physical capabilities decline, enrichment must adapt to remain accessible and rewarding rather than frustrating. Cognitive decline in older cats is underdiagnosed because owners attribute behavioural changes to normal aging rather than a manageable condition. Regular veterinary assessment of senior cats, combined with environmental adaptations at home, can substantially improve their quality of life during their final years.
