Cubs raised together from an early age form compatible pairs that coexist with much lower conflict. This finding demonstrates how understanding natural developmental biology improves welfare. Enclosures must provide extensive vertical space, thick branches for climbing, and multiple refuges that allow animals to escape line of sight. Adult pairs that show escalating tension require separation to prevent lethal injury.
