Zoos in warm climates must provide air-conditioned indoor access that red pandas choose voluntarily. Their solitary nature means housing pairs long-term causes chronic social stress evidenced by aggression and avoidance behavior. Diet management is critical: bamboo must be fresh, as red pandas selectively consume the most nutritious leaf tips.
