Blast fishing causes instant death or severe injury to all animals within the blast radius, including those that may suffer from the concussive force. Cyanide fishing causes prolonged suffering as poisoned fish are disoriented and often die from organ damage after capture. Eliminating these destructive practices would simultaneously protect marine animal welfare and coral reef ecosystems.
