Some AEDs cause sedation, ataxia, or polyphagia (excessive hunger) that affect daily quality of life. Balancing seizure control against medication side effects requires ongoing adjustment. Owners of epileptic dogs benefit from clear guidance on emergency management, realistic expectations about control rates, and the emotional support to maintain realistic quality of life assessments.
