High milk yields push goats beyond their physiological comfort, increasing disease risk. Disbudding without pain relief causes acute suffering. Zero-grazing systems deny goats the opportunity to browse and explore — behaviors that are central to their behavioral ecology and strongly motivated. The perception of goat dairy as inherently small-scale and pastoral often obscures the reality of industrial goat farming, where conditions may be comparable to intensive cattle operations.
