Farmed rabbits are among the least protected farm animals despite being highly sentient prey species. Wire cage confinement prevents fundamental behaviors including running, jumping, and hiding. Group housing systems with appropriate enrichment provide dramatically better welfare. Consumer awareness about rabbit farming conditions is very low.
