Livestock guardian animals are working animals whose welfare deserves attention alongside the livestock they protect. Donkeys used as guardians often suffer from isolation from other donkeys. Llamas separated permanently from other camelids show distress. Guardian animals should have opportunities for social interaction with their own species while fulfilling their protective role.
