Tourism, even well-intentioned, imposes energetic costs when it displaces feeding and rest. The welfare of wild dolphins is intrinsically linked to the health of marine ecosystems and the regulation of human activity within them. Every individual dolphin that drowns in a gillnet, or is struck by a speedboat, or is chronically harassed by tour vessels, experiences real suffering — not merely conservation statistics.
