Insufficient space to run and display pronking behaviour leads to inactivity, stereotypies, and chronic boredom. In temperate climates, wet conditions predispose springbok to hoof problems and respiratory infections that require active veterinary management. Visitor proximity can trigger chronic flight responses if enclosure design does not provide adequate visual buffers. Well-managed zoos keep springbok in compatible social groups with large paddocks, appropriate substrate management, and climate-appropriate shelter.
