Harvest and slaughter without insensibilisation are the most acute welfare concerns. The Shrimp Welfare Project has identified practical, commercially feasible interventions including lower stocking densities, disease management improvements, and more humane slaughter that could be implemented at scale with relatively modest investment. The moral case for prioritising shrimp welfare rests on the combination of scale, vulnerability, and uncertainty.
