The space deficit is nearly impossible to address — no facility can provide space equivalent to even a tiny fraction of wild orca ranging. The social deficit is equally intractable — wild matrilineal pod structure cannot be replicated in captive breeding groups of mixed origins. The acoustic environment of concrete tanks amplifies echolocation returns, potentially causing sensory distress for animals that navigate by sonar.
