Farmed rabbits are among the most poorly regulated of farm animals despite significant welfare problems in standard housing systems.
Farmed rabbits in battery cages cannot stand fully upright, hop, jump or dig. They experience chronic welfare compromise from inability to express fundamental behavioral needs. Unlike broiler chickens or pigs, farmed rabbits have received little regulatory attention in most jurisdictions. Their welfare problems are both severe and largely invisible to consumers and policymakers.
