Welfare Considerations

Even in zoos without bile farming, sun bears are often kept in inappropriately small, barren enclosures that fail to meet their complex behavioural needs. Sun bears are excellent climbers and diggers who spend hours each day foraging in the wild — captive environments must provide these opportunities.
