Welfare Considerations

Hoarding situations create some of the worst companion animal welfare conditions encountered by rescuers — animals living in filth, severely malnourished, sick and injured without treatment. The welfare emergency is immediate and severe for every animal involved. Effective intervention must address both the animal welfare emergency and the underlying mental health condition of the hoarder, or recurrence rates are extremely high.
