However, AMS is not a passive welfare improvement; it introduces new risks. Subordinate cows may be excluded from the robot by dominant individuals. Lame cows may avoid walking to the unit. Data-rich AMS can identify these problems early, but only if farmers actively monitor alerts and respond to welfare indicators.
