Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a common chronic digestive condition in cats causing vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss. Early diagnosis and dietary management improve quality of life significantly.
Cats with unmanaged IBD experience chronic gastrointestinal discomfort including nausea, cramping, and the distress of frequent vomiting and diarrhea. Progressive weight loss reduces physical condition and vitality. The emotional wellbeing of affected cats is compromised by chronic physical illness, altered appetite, and reduced energy for normal behaviors. Because IBD shares clinical signs with more serious conditions including lymphoma, accurate diagnosis through biopsy is important for welfare as well as clinical reasons: treating lymphoma as IBD delays effective therapy.
