Olfactory enrichment through prey scents and novel materials engages their investigatory behaviour. Social management must respect their solitary nature, with careful introductions for breeding purposes and monitoring of compatibility. The welfare of pregnant females and cubs requires dedicated secluded areas and minimal disturbance. Given their intelligence and physical capabilities, tiger welfare assessment should include both positive welfare indicators and absence of negative states.
