Welfare Considerations

Wolverines in zoos often suffer from inadequate space and lack of environmental complexity. Minimum enclosure sizes of several hundred square metres with naturalistic substrate, rocks, logs, water features, and cooling systems are essential. Stereotypic pacing is a common welfare indicator of inadequate housing. Cognitive enrichment through food-hiding puzzles and novel scents supports natural foraging behaviour.
