Dog water bowls are frequently contaminated with bacteria and biofilm, posing risks to both canine and human health if not properly maintained.
Contaminated water sources cause gastrointestinal illness, reduced water intake and associated dehydration in dogs. Dogs that drink less water are at higher risk of urinary tract infections and kidney disease. Many owners fail to recognise the importance of bowl hygiene, washing infrequently and not addressing biofilm. Fresh water, daily rinsing, and dishwasher washing several times per week are minimum standards for canine health.
