The preventability of this disease through vaccination makes every case a welfare failure. Communities with low vaccination rates allow reservoir populations that maintain the virus in the environment, endangering all unvaccinated puppies. Vaccine hesitancy in pets is a growing concern in some communities. Accessible low-cost vaccination clinics help protect vulnerable communities' pet populations.
