The tender, rotting tissue is readily apparent on close hoof examination. Daily hoof picking removes the debris and moisture that bacteria require. A horse on clean, dry bedding with daily hoof care rarely develops thrush. The prevalence of thrush reflects more about management standards than any intrinsic disease susceptibility.
