Welfare Considerations

Water bath stunning failures — where birds enter the stunner without achieving unconsciousness — are difficult to detect and result in conscious birds entering the scalding tank. Controlled atmosphere systems address many of these concerns by allowing birds to be killed in their transport crates without live shackling. Consumer and corporate pressure for CAK adoption is among the most impactful welfare campaigns in the poultry sector.
