The effective altruism approach to animal welfare has produced some of the most cost-effective welfare improvements achieved in any sector. Corporate campaign wins — persuading major food companies to commit to cage-free eggs or Better Chicken Commitment — affect millions of animals per advocacy dollar spent. This does not mean that all animal welfare work should be judged by EA metrics, nor that only farmed animal welfare matters. But the EA framework provides a useful analytical lens for prioritising welfare interventions: where is suffering most severe, most neglected, and most tractably addressed? The answers to these questions guide strategic resource allocation and help donors, advocates, and organisations focus effort where it achieves the most welfare improvement per unit of investment.
