Lethal control, while sometimes necessary, carries welfare costs and can paradoxically increase conflict by disrupting social structure and triggering compensatory reproduction. Non-lethal management including exclusion fencing, crop protection and land management modifications can significantly reduce conflict without the welfare costs of culling. Effective coexistence requires accepting that some level of boar presence is an ecological reality while managing damage through proportionate, welfare-sensitive means.
