Heat-stressed cattle experience a cascade of physiological changes: reduced feed intake leading to slower growth, suppressed immune function increasing disease susceptibility, impaired reproduction, and in severe cases mortality. Shade reduces solar radiation load allowing cattle to maintain lower body temperatures with less evaporative cooling effort. The welfare benefit of shade is direct, measurable, and achievable at costs that are often recovered through improved productivity.
