Tourist operations where tarsiers are handled for photos represent a severe welfare abuse — the bright flashes, noise, and handling cause extreme distress that can be lethal. The welfare consensus is that tarsiers should not be kept in captivity except under the most specialized conditions, and only when necessary for conservation breeding.
