Canine cognitive dysfunction represents a profound welfare challenge in the senior dog population. Dogs experiencing dementia-like symptoms are disoriented, anxious, and unable to engage with their environment normally. The night-time waking, aimless wandering, and loss of house-training are deeply distressing for both dogs and owners. Early intervention with appropriate management, medication where indicated, and environmental optimization can slow progression and maintain quality of life.
