Veterinary behavioral pharmacology offers evidence-based tools to improve quality of life for cats suffering from anxiety, fear, and aggression disorders.
Behavioral pharmacology, when used appropriately and in combination with environmental enrichment and behavioral therapy, can dramatically improve welfare for cats with significant anxiety or aggression. Many cats that would otherwise face euthanasia or surrender can achieve a good quality of life with proper medication management. Stigma around medicating animals for behavioral conditions remains a barrier to care.
