Solutions being explored include sexed semen to reduce male births, integration with meat production, and breeding schemes that improve male kid value. Disbudding is performed to prevent horn development that causes injury in confined groups, but pain relief provision remains inconsistent. The strong maternal bond between does and kids means early separation causes vocal distress in both parties that persists for days.
