Senior cat enrichment requires honest adaptation to the changing physical and cognitive reality of an aging animal. The enrichment program that worked beautifully at age five may be inaccessible, anxiety-provoking, or simply exhausting at age fourteen. Arthritis means platforms may need ramps instead of jumps; cognitive decline means puzzles may need to be simpler; reduced sensory acuity means tactile and olfactory enrichment may be more engaging than visual or auditory. The welfare goal remains consistent — maintaining quality of life through behavioral engagement — but the tools and intensity must be calibrated to what the individual senior cat can comfortably access and enjoy.
