Noise phobia is one of the most common and distressing anxiety disorders in dogs, yet it is highly treatable with the right approach.
Noise phobia causes genuine suffering. During a fearful episode, dogs experience elevated cortisol, rapid heart rate, and intense anxiety similar to a panic attack. Dogs that go untreated often suffer repeatedly through fireworks seasons, storms, and other events, with no ability to escape their fear. Many owners misunderstand or underestimate the severity of this distress. Punishing or dismissing fear responses worsens the condition. Welfare-centered care involves early recognition, veterinary consultation, and compassionate behavioral intervention that reduces the frequency and intensity of fear experiences over time.
