The welfare goal is not group housing as a checkbox but group housing implemented well enough that sows experience genuinely positive lives: opportunities to root, socialize, move, and rest comfortably without chronic fear or injury. The innovation challenge now is developing housing systems that make good group management accessible to a wider range of producers through better design, technology, and training.
