Canine parvovirus welfare is fundamentally an equity issue. The disease causes extreme suffering — profuse hemorrhagic diarrhea, vomiting, severe pain, and rapid deterioration — before death in untreated dogs. Vaccination makes this suffering entirely preventable at low cost. The welfare gap is access: in communities where veterinary care is geographically or financially inaccessible, dogs die from a preventable disease. Community vaccination programs that bring prevention to where dogs live — not requiring owners to navigate fragmented veterinary access — are the highest-impact welfare intervention. Addressing parvo welfare equity requires investment in community veterinary infrastructure, not just individual owner education about vaccination importance.
