Farmed rabbits are among the least welfare-protected farm animals in most jurisdictions. Wire cages deny the running, jumping, and burrowing behaviors these animals are strongly motivated to perform. Foot injuries from wire floors, high mortality from respiratory disease, and psychological distress from bare environments are endemic to conventional systems.
